The Fox pub in Bulmer Tye to re-open under new ownership next month

The new owners of a village pub, which closed at the start of this year, say the business is a natural fit for their growing network across Suffolk.

Husband-and-wife team David and Roxane Marjoram completed the purchase of the freehold on The Fox in Bulmer Tye on Thursday, and they now intend to carry out minor renovations, ahead of a planned reopening next month.

It becomes the latest acquisition under the couple’s independent Gusto Pronto banner, which they launched in 2008 and have since taken over the running numerous pubs in Bury St Edmunds and beyond.

Roxane told the Free Press that, despite The Fox’s sudden closure back in January, the couple are confident the pub will go on to be a success when it opens its doors again on a soon-to-be-confirmed date in September.

“We were looking around Suffolk for a new venture, but it’s always important to wait for the right opportunity,” she said. “The Fox had a really good reputation, and we thought it was the right place to start our new venture.

“We are very proud to be an independent business, and we are not looking to become a huge chain, but we like to take a good opportunity when it comes up.

“It seemed a good fit with what we’re already doing with our other pubs.

“We have had a lovely response on social media, and a fabulous response in general from people in and around the village.

“We hope to see a very busy pub. We hope it will be a place that locals and people who live in and around Sudbury will want to come to.

“We have got a general manager and a head chef lined up already, and we’re looking to provide really good hospitality and good seasonal local food.”

She added that The Fox will also source beer from the couple’s own craft brewery, Brewshed, which is based in Bury St Edmunds.

Gusto Pronto also owns The Crown in Hartest, The Cadogan in Ingham, and The One Bull and The Beerhouse, both in Bury.
