Two Halstead men in their 20s have been jailed, after they were convicted of stealing a vehicle from the town centre earlier this month.

A Ford Fiesta was stolen from Halstead High Street on Sunday, February 10, at approximately 5.45pm.

Subsequently, Aaron Rowe, 22, of Upper Fenn Road, Halstead, and Ryan Boreham, 25, of Elizabeth Way, Halstead, were found with the Fiesta in Pretoria Road, at around 8.15pm on the same day, and they were arrested by Essex Police.

They were later charged with taking a car without consent, and possession of cannabis, a prohibited class B substance.

Boreham also faced four additional charges – theft from a motor vehicle for taking the owner’s wallet, criminal damage to a police van, using threatening or abusive language or behaviour, and resisting a police constable in the execution of their duty.

Both men pleaded guilty to all of their charges, when they appeared for a hearing at Chelmsford Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday, February 12.

Boreham was sentenced to eight weeks in jail, and was also fined a total of £265, comprising a £150 compensation charge and a £115 victim surcharge.

Meanwhile, Rowe was handed a six-week jail sentence, as well as being ordered to pay a £115 victim surcharge.
