Train services at Needham Market have been cancelled due to the discovery of a body on the line.

British Transport Police say they are not treating the death as suspicious.

A BTP spokesman said: “Our officers were called to a foot crossing near Needham Market rail station following reports of a body trackside.

“The call came into police shortly after 8am on Monday, October 5.

“Colleagues from Suffolk Constabulary and paramedics from the East of England Ambulance Service also attended. A person was pronounced dead at the scene.

“Their death is not being treated as suspicious. Officers are now working to establish the identity of the person and inform their next of kin. A file will be prepared for the coroner.”

A spokesman for the East of England Ambulance Service NHS Trust said: “We were called just after 8am this morning. We sent an ambulance crew, a rapid response vehicle and an ambulance officer but, sadly, there was nothing that could be done for the patient.”

Greater Anglia is reporting ‘major disruption’ with cancellations to services at Needham Market.

No stations between Ipswich and Stowmarket are being served either but a rail replacement bus service will be running between the two.
