Beauty salon plans by Willow Tree Farm Shop and Café, in Glemsford, near Sudbury, win approval

Plans to build a beauty salon on land adjacent to a farm shop near Sudbury have been given the go-ahead.

Babergh District Council approved the plans, by Matthew Russell, of Willow Tree Farm Shop and Café in Glemsford, on Monday.

The application is for a stand-alone beauty salon on vacant land at the farm shop on the A1092, Lower Road.

A planning officer’s delegated report said the ‘modest’ building would be adjacent to the café already on site.

“The site benefits from significant off-road parking given the site of the current car park, which would be utilised for this salon,” said the report.

“The proposal comprises a modest, black timber cladded structure. Its size and height represent a minor addition to the site and would in no way appear dominant or overbearing within the site or street scene/surrounding area.”

Michelle Gordon, of the council’s economic development and tourism department, said the team was ‘broadly supportive of this proposal as it complements and adds to the diversity of the commercial uses already in existence on the site and will provide new employment opportunities’.

The family-run farm shop opened its café in 2020.
