The family team at the Horse and Groom, in East Street, Sudbury, are preparing to move on

A pub group is searching for new tenants for a popular Sudbury watering hole as the current landlords prepare to move on.

The Horse and Groom, in East Street, is being marketed by Admiral Taverns, which is asking for an annual rent of £15,950 a year.

On Facebook, Ashley Webb, one of the current landlords of the pub, said: “Thank you for the kind words, whoever takes over will be taking on a fantastic pub with a fantastic regular base and teams.

“Thanks all for your support, we will still be running the Horse and Groom until a new tenant has been found.”

Ashley, who took over at the pub with his family in 2021, said they have given Admiral Taverns six months' notice but can leave earlier if a new landlord is found.

His partner, Stephanie Hawkins, said: “We have been here almost four years currently and would do many more years but sadly our family life doesn’t commit to it.”

Stephanie, whose parents Laura and Kevin Hawkins also run the pub, said: “Hopefully the people who follow on from us enjoy it as we have and keep it for a long time.”

A spokesman for Admiral Taverns said: “The pub has recently undergone a major external redecoration giving it a fresh-modern look and it is well-known for its vibrant atmosphere with regular live entertainment and live sport.

“We are looking for someone who is committed to continuing to cement the pub as a social hub and is keen to experiment with introducing a small food menu to further enhance the pub's offering.

“We would like to take this opportunity to thank our outgoing licensees for all their hard work in making the pub such a success and for creating such a fantastic community asset.
