Sudbury woman raises more than £2,000 for Macmillan Cancer Support after successful charity sale inspired by impact of disease on family
A woman from Sudbury, whose loved-ones have been affected by cancer, has raised over £2,000 for a charity, which provides vital support for people diagnosed with the disease.
Gwen Baker’s daughter-in-law, Erica Baker, was diagnosed with metastatic cancer after the disease spread through her body, while her husband, Eric, died from lung cancer, aged 58.
Keen to support those affected by the illness, Mrs Baker hosted a fundraising event outside her home in Park Road on Saturday, raising £2,005 for Macmillan Cancer Support.
Alongside goods on sale, dozens of donated raffle prizes from businesses in Sudbury and the surrounding area included gift vouchers from J and W ladies hair design in Gaol Lane, HBL hair salon in North Street and Fanboo in King Street.
Other donations included a bottle of wine from the White Horse in North Street and a range of cakes from Hopewell Bakery in Bures.
“I’m extremely grateful to all those who donated items,” said Mrs Baker, who praised her family for their support on the day.
“I could not have done this without my family, especially my youngest sister, Diane. They all came and helped, because of Erica.”
