The A134 derby spoils went the way of the hosts as Sudbury recorded a six-wicket victory over rivals Bury St Edmunds at Friars Street on Saturday afternoon.

Visiting captain Michael Comber won the toss and elected to bat first, but it proved to be the wrong decision as none of the Bury batsmen occupied the crease for too long.

Mark Nunn top-scored with 26, while the team was eventually bowled out inside 35 overs for just 103 runs.

Bury-born James Poulson was the pick of the Sudbury bowlers, ending the innings with figures of 5-32.

In reply, ex-Bury batsman Tom Huggins set the tone with a knock of 49 before his wicket was snared by Sean Park.

However, it still provided the hosts with a platform to go on and win the Gibbs Denley East Anglian Premier Cricket League contest for the loss of just four wickets.

Elsewhere in the division, Burwell lost by 104 runs to Frinton-on-Sea, while Woolpit drew with Vauxhall Mallards.

In the Marshall Hatchick Two Counties Championship Division One, Mildenhall’s winning start to the new season came to an end at the hands of Wivenhoe.

The in-form Steve Taylor scored 49, but it was not enough to prevent his side from slipping to a 69-run defeat.

There was more positive news for Hadleigh, Halstead and Haverhill as they defeated Braintree, Copford and Mistley respectively.

But, Worlington could not make it a quartet of triumphs as they were defeated by four wickets against Frinton II.

Across the border, Diss, Old Buckenham and Garboldisham all picked up victories in the Dipple and Conway Opticians Norfolk Cricket Alliance League,
