CRICKET ROUND-UP: Sudbury win Suffolk derby
Sudbury claimed the local bragging rights from their trip to Suffolk rivals Woolpit on Saturday afternoon.
Both sides went into the Gibbs Denley East Anglian Premier Cricket League encounter at Rectory Lane without a win from their opening three outings.
However, it was Sudbury that ended up celebrating breaking their duck as they put 186 runs on the board, with the hosts only able to muster 152 in reply before they were bowled out.
Nathan Poole was the pick of the Sudbury batsmen thanks to his knock of 52, as South African pace-bowler Dustin Melton and James Poulson weighed in with four wickets apiece.
Elsewhere in the Premier League, Bury lost for the first time this season at the hands of Frinton-on-Sea, while an unbeaten 96 from Peter Richer helped Burwell to get the better of Horsford.
In the Dipple and Conway Opticians Norfolk Cricket Alliance League, Diss, Old Buckenham and Garboldisham were all defeated on their travels.
A 91 not out from Steve Taylor helped leaders Mildenhall to continue their 100% winning start to the new Marshall Hatchick Two Counties Championship Division One campaign with an eight-wicket victory over Coggeshall.
There was also a win for Halstead, but Worlington and Haverhill were beaten by Wivenhoe and Copford respectively.
