AFC Sudbury opened up a 12-point lead at the top of the Ryman League Division One North table thanks to a 3-1 win away at Haringey Borough on Sunday, while there was also victories for Thetford Town and Ely City on Saturday but the play-offs look a distant dream for Bury Town after a 1-1 draw.

Jamie Godbold’s Yellows fell behind at Tilbury’s Chadfields (Haringey’s White Hart Lane pitch deemed unfit), but they were level before the interval thanks to Liam Wales.

It was a much more dominant display by the visitors after the restart and they eventually won through thanks to a brace from Joe Maybanks.

As for local rivals Bury Town, they were held to a 1-1 draw at home by Cray Wanderers.

Josh Mayhew gave Bury the lead from the penalty spot after 64 minutes at Ram Meadow, only for Tevan Allen to put through his own net in the closing stages.

Meanwhile, Soham Town Rangers were without a fixture after their trip to Aveley was postponed.

Elsewhere, Needham Market remain in a relegation battle in the Premier Division following their 5-0 thrashing away at second-placed Hampton & Richmond.

Down in the Thurlow Nunn Premier Division, Mildenhall Town won the West Suffolk derby with Walsham-le-Willows 2-1 at Summer Road.

Both of Mildenhall’s goals were scored by Ben Yeomans, with Nathan Clarke netting for hosting Walsham.

Haverhill Rovers started life without sacked manager Michael Shinn by losing 4-0 at home to Thetford, while Long Melford, Newmarket Town and Hadleigh United were beaten by Whitton United, Brantham Athletic and Godmanchester Rovers respectively.

In the First Division, Alex Theobald scored twice as Ely City recorded a 3-2 win over Dereham Town Reserves at the Unwin Ground.

Halstead Town beat Downham Town 3-0 and Diss Town edged past Needham Market Reserves 1-0, but there was not such positive news for Stowmarket as they fell to a 3-0 home defeat at the hands of Cornard United.
