Reynolds has few complaints about comprehensive defeat

PRE-SEASON FRIENDLY

King’s Lynn Town 4

AFC Sudbury 1

AFC Sudbury’s assistant manager Andy Reynolds with left with few complaints despite seeing his side slip to a heavy defeat to King’s Lynn Town.

Goals from Lee Stevenson (two), Michael Clunan and Sam Mulready condemned the Yellows to defeat in Norfolk on Saturday.

But Reynolds was left with no qualms about the final result against the the Evo-Stik Southern Premier Division outfit.

“King’s Lynn were slicker and more clinical than anyone else we’ve played against this summer,” admitted Reynolds following the match.

“Our pre-season programme has been specifically designed to crank things up in the final week with games against the likes of King’s Lynn and Lowestoft who operate at a higher level than ourselves.

“They deserved to beat us and it’s a great measure of where we are at. We got more minutes into more players and it was an excellent learning curve for us.”

Sudbury had a narrow escape early on when Ollie Bowles saved brilliantly to deny Stevenson before Ryan Henshaw scrambled the ball clear off the line.

Minutes later, the Yellows took the lead against the run of play.

The pace of Luke Callander took him past Sam Gaughran before playing in Jordan Blackwell who rounded home goalkeeper Alex Street to roll the ball into an empty net.

Town levelled matters just after the half-hour mark when Conor Marshall picked up a loose ball and played in Stevenson, whose finish across the keeper went in off the post.

Bowles was by far the busier of the two goalkeepers but there was little he could when the hosts took the lead 13 minutes into the second period.

Gaughran robbed the ball from Callandar and played in Stevenson who made no mistake by smashing home from inside the box.

And just five minutes later it was 3-1 when Bowles parried the effort of Liam Hurst but Mulready was on hand to tap home.

Lynn completed the scoring with an injury-time penalty from Clunan after Jackson Ramm had been upended in the box.
