Sudbury skipper demands repeat of last week
Darren Batch has warned his Sudbury players that they will not be in for an easy ride when they play host to Great Witchingham on Saturday, writes Liam Apicella.
Last weekend’s 157-run victory away at Burwell has moved Sudbury up to fifth place in the Gibbs Denley East Anglian Premier League, which is their highest ever position after eight matches.
Meanwhile, Great Witchingham could only put 79 runs on the board as they lost by seven wickets to Swardeston.
It means the Norfolk outfit have won just once this season, with only Horsford keeping them off the bottom of the table.
Nevertheless, Batch is adamant that Sudbury will have to be at their very best to win through at Friars Street.
“There are no easy games at this level,” he said.
“They have two of the best batsmen the league has ever seen, so they are no pushovers.
“We must carry on from where we left off last week.
“That means making their bowlers work hard for our wickets and playing the right shots when we bat.”
Against Burwell, overseas star Dustin Melton scored his first half-century for the club to go along with his two wickets.
“Dustin has been frustrated with the bat so far, so I am delighted for him,” added Batch.
“He has been great for us and that should be a confidence boost.”
