Sudbury's audax rides prove a big hit

Cycle Club Sudbury’s annual audax (long distance) rides from Long Melford were well attended this year with more than 100 people getting in the saddle.

In total, there was 106 people who entered across two events hosted by the club.

The Grand Tour de Stour, a distance of more than 125 miles, attracted 57 entries, with 39 completing the course.

There was 49 who took part in the shorter 65-mile Tour de Stour, with 31 completing it.

The weather was not as forecast at the beginning with a heavy rain shower but this cleared to very warm weather with the wind getting stronger as the day went on.

As expected most riders came from East Anglia and the south east of England.

But a special mention goes to Lucy and Richard McTaggart, who travelled a huge distance from Galashiels in the Scottish Borders to take part.

A number of people helped to make the event a success, with organiser Andrew Hoppit extending special thanks to Brian Mann, Robin Weaver, Viv Marsh and Tom Moore.

l Cycle Club Sudbury will be holding their latest time trial event on the Lavenham 10 course from the Cock public house tonight with a 7pm start. Another audax ride will commence from Manningtree on Saturday.
