THURLOW NUNN LEAGUE: Budget cuts force Hadleigh manager to quit
Ian Brown has stepped down from his position as manager of Hadleigh United after learning that his budget for the 2016-17 campaign was going to be significantly slashed.
It is understood that a loss of sponsorship is the major reason behind the financial cuts, which has also seen Brown’s assistant and stalwart Alan Dilloway walk away from the Thurlow Nunn League outfit.
Stuart Alston, who has previously managed the Under-18 and reserve sides at Millfield, has taken over first-team duties with immediate effect.
“Next season is going to be extremely challenging both on and off the pitch at the senior level,” said chairman Rolf Beggerow.
“We are in discussions with several potential new sponsors and hope to be making announcements before the season starts.
“We are entering a period where the success of the club should be measured by how many young players we can develop who can compete at the first-team level in the Thurlow Nunn Premier League.
“We have one of the best football facilities around and it may take us a season to recover our financial position and I am grateful for having a great group of people on the committee who remain committed to the future of the club.
A number of senior players are expected to leave the club over the coming weeks, with goalkeeper Ben Nower having already headed for the exit door to join Newmarket Town.
