VIDEO: Late drama sees Sudbury hold league leaders

James Baker netted an injury time penalty for 10-man AFC Sudbury as they held leaders Harlow Town to a 1-1 draw that allowed Suffolk rivals Needham Market to leapfrog the Hawks to the summit of Ryman League Division One North.

In a match ex-AFC man David Cowley had fired Harlow in front and in which Kris Newby had been sent off, Baker side footed home from the spot to level matters.

AFC remained in the top-five play-off places, five points clear of Dereham Town in sixth, but having played three games more.

David Lorimer netted Hadleigh United’s winner as Ian Brown’s men continued their recent resurgence by moving up to third in the Thurlow Nunn League Premier Division.

Michael Barwick got the Brettsiders’ other goal.

In the First Division, Long Melford thrashed March Town United 6-0 to go two points clear of Saffron Walden Town, who fought back to earn a 2-2 draw at Halstead Town.

AFC Sudbury Reserves lost 3-0 at Great Yarmouth Town.

Ipswich Town’s recent downturn in form in the SkyBet Championship continued as they lost 2-0 at Rotherham - the Tractor Boys have not won in three league encounters.

New manager Alex Neil continues to leave a mark on Norwich City though as they thrashed Blackpool 4-0 courtesy of a Gary Hooper hat-trick and moved to just one place behind the play-off places.

Sudbury remained unbeaten in rugby’s London Three North East, but saw their 100 per cent winning record ended by a 10-10 draw at Harlow.

They remain well in charge at the top of the table though.
