20-tonne chicken manure pile at Mendlesham ignites causing fire services to spend three hours fighting blaze

Fire services were called to a large fire in the open close to the A140 on Sunday and spent three hours tackling the blaze.
The fire took hold after a 20-tonne pile of chicken manure ignited and four fire appliances were deployed to a farm near Mendlesham at 11.20am on Sunday.
Firefighters from Leiston, Eye and Stowmarket spent more than three hours fighting the foul infero before stopping at 2.35pm.
No other emergency services were required and nobody was injured in the fire.
Manure fires can occur due to chemical reactions within the pile in certain conditions.
