Thetford mums, from Barham Primary PTA, appear on BBC Bridge of Lies alongside Ross Kemp
A team from Thetford has shared their excitement after appearing on BBC game show Bridge of Lies alongside Ross Kemp.
Emily Rayment, 39, was part of a team with her mum, Louise Hutchingson, 65, and friends Laura Blackburn, 43, and Beth Mleczek, 37.
“Mum thought ‘stuff it’, I want to go on a game show,” said Emily, who works as a graphic designer, in Bury St Edmunds.
“She’s having a freeing year, not worrying about what people think.”
The mother and daughter duo persuaded two of Emily’s friends from the PTA at Barnham Primary School to sign up for Bridge of Lies, which is filmed at the BBC Scotland studios.
Despite it being Louise’s dream to appear on a game show, Emily said the team didn’t have high hopes they would be selected for filming.
However, partly thanks to Louise’s comical personality, they made it through the selection process and went on an all-expenses paid trip to Glasgow in September.
Emily said: “It was really fun, we were there for two nights and it was a nice girls trip.
“We were on a high, nervous and excited - it was a rollercoaster of emotions.”
Emily described Ross Kemp, who is well known for his role as Grant Mitchell in EastEnders, as ‘lovely’.
“Ross was entertaining he kept calling mum Granny Lou,” said Emily.
Having grown up in Norfolk, the presenter bonded with the team over their roots, affectionately calling them ‘Norfolk Dumplings’.
Emily said her and friends wanted to thank Louise for the experience, calling her the ‘driving force behind it all’.
All four women made it through their individual rounds.
Her mum and Laura are already applying for more game shows, with Louise keen to appear in the next series of The Traitors.
Since the episode aired on June 3, the group has had positive messages from people who watched - despite not winning any prize money.
You can watch Bridge of Lies, Series 4: Episode 2 on BBC iPlayer.
