Elveden Primary Academy, near Thetford, closes today due to power cut in village
A Suffolk school has had to close after its village was hit by a power cut this morning.
Elveden Primary Academy teachers announced the closure outside the school’s playground to parents arriving to drop off their children.
The power outage, which has also affected the village, was said to have been caused by a tree falling on a power cable at Elveden Estate.
Though it was thought that it would be restored by 9.30am, the village was still experiencing intermittent power and the decision was made to close the school.
In an email to parents, the school said: “We have no power again and are making the decision to shut the school for the day.
“If we do not make the decision now, there won’t be hot meals for lunch and we don’t want to wish to mess parents around.
“We apologise for the disruption, we understand a lot of parents have had to work to rearrange and we are grateful for your understanding.
“We plan to be open tomorrow.”
