Director of Trussell Trust’s Thetford Foodbank, Phil Williams, to take on half marathon Tesco trolley dash
The director of Thetford Foodbank is set to take on a half-marathon ‘Ultimate Trolley Dash’ and is calling on people to help contribute to his load.
Phil Williams, will be pulling his trolley back and forth from the Tesco superstore in Kilverstone to the Trussell Trust Foodbank in Croxton Way throughout June 29, where he hopes he will take around half a ton of donated food.
This ambitious endeavour aims not only to collect a substantial amount of items but also raise vital funds to support the food bank's crucial mission.
Phil said: “The idea came about as Thetford Foodbank has seen the highest levels of emergency food parcels given out since our inception in 2011. Our output has doubled since moving into our new home a couple of years ago.
“Although food donations have gone up, they have not kept pace with the demand and so we are spending many thousands of pounds a year on food to keep the service going – we estimate we will have to spend around £20,000 on food in the next 12 months.
So people can donate food during the event bought at Tesco, or for other times before and after the event look at our website – by clicking here – to find out when they can drop off items at the foodbank.
“Food items we are particularly short of are UHT milk, long life juice, tinned veg and tinned fruit.
“Alternatively, people could donate funds via our website too. Together, we can turn this dash into a powerful stride towards a hunger-free community.”
