Thetford Open Gardens returns for 16th year to raise money for St Nicholas Hospice Care
Thetford Open Gardens is back for its 16th year on June 26, continuing to raise money for St Nicholas Hospice Care.
This year around 24 gardens are open, ranging from the new Kingsfleet development to a secluded courtyard based on a 16th century design.
Organisers Karen-Emma White, Suzanne Norman, Susie Dowling, and Helvi Moore are hoping to top the £11,918.23 raised last year.
Karen said: “We are looking forward to showcasing another group of fabulous gardens this year. Thetford Open Gardens is so well loved by the community and it’s always thrilling to see the buzz of visitors looking round and enjoying the different gardens.
“Often people don’t realise what a wealth of beautiful gardens we have hidden around the town, each one unique and with plenty to inspire visitors. One of the things that got people through the pandemic was access to outdoor spaces. We all have a greater appreciation of these green spaces and what they can offer us these days.
“Thetford Open Gardens is very much about the community coming together to support an organisation that offers support to the community themselves.”
Alongside old favourites, there are five new gardens to view, Kilverstone Hall is making a welcome return and St Andrew’s Church will also be open for the event.
Food is another important element, with many of the gardens offering refreshments from non-alcoholic Pimm’s to Cream Teas.
At Sue Norman’s garden more than 50 home-made cakes will be available to eat in the garden or take away alongside a plant sale.
Tickets for Thetford Open Gardens on June 26, are £7 per person and need to be bought in advance from the Leaping Hare Box Office, in King Street, from Thetford Garden Centre (cash only) or online at www.leapinghare.org.
