Brandon Pride’s Rainbow Colour Run and Pride Day, at Rememberance Playing Fields, back for second year

A town’s Pride event and fun run is back for a second year on the back of its successful debut.

Brandon Pride is holding its second Rainbow Colour Run and Pride Day at the town’s Remembrance Playing Fields on June 14, from 11am.

Last year saw hundreds of visitors and participants enjoy and atmosphere and a range of live stage acts, and there will be several activities alongside the main run this year.

Sue Meader, chairperson of Brandon Pride, said: “We're delighted that so many people came along last year.

“Brandon really is a welcoming town and for anyone not sure what a Pride event is, or why they're held, we'd say come along and see.”

A warm up for the colour run starts at 12.15pm on the back field, while the run itself will kick off at 12.30pm.

This will be followed by DJs, a performance from the Shoestring Theatre Group, a fire show and the three categories of ‘Pride Pooches’ – Best Rescue, Best Dressed and Waggiest Tail.

At the end of the day, from 5.30pm on the main stage, there will be drag performances from The Duke, Vernia and Destiny Collin.

Brandon Fire Station will create a water cloud for the Colour Run.

Sue said: “Pride events are held to celebrate each other's uniqueness, that we all deserve respect and happiness, and that everyone deserves to be their true self.

“By getting together in such an informal and fun way, we can all get to know and understand each other better.

“And this ultimately may help people support their LGBTQ+ child, colleague, relative or friend and better understand any issues or prejudice they may face.”

Guests can take part in an inflatable bungee run game alongside the other activities, while there will also be a funhouse and Miami fairground ride.

Visitors can browse a range of craft, community, charity and trade stalls on the day. There will be food and drink available at an outside bar with a picnic area by the main stage.

The event is free to attend, while there is a small charge to enter the colour run of £5 for children and £10 for adults.

Those wishing to volunteer their help for the day should email brandonpride2024@gmail.com, while those wishing to apply for a stall on the day should contact bookings.brandonpride@yahoo.com.

Charities and community groups pay £5 for a stall, while it is £15 for traders.
