Thetford to have two symptom-free Covid-19 testing sites opened
Thetford residents are to have access to two symptom-free Covid testing sites at each end of the town.
The first in the market town will start today at the Sainsbury car park, London Road, until May 22, and the other site will open on May 25 at the Kilverstone Tesco car park until May 29.
Councillor Sam Chapman-Allen, Breckland Council's leader, said: "We need to take every measure possible as we open up our community to ensure Covid-19 is not spreading undetected within the community, and possibly putting vulnerable people at risk.
"These tests can help identify people who have Covid but no symptoms, ensuring they avoid spreading it to their friends, loved ones and within their communities.
"I hope residents in and around Thetford will make the most of the opportunity to access a test which does not require pre-booking."
The asymptomatic testing programme is being delivered locally in partnership between Breckland Council and Norfolk County Council's Public Health team.
The programme has already been offered in other parts of the county, including Swaffham, Watton, King's Lynn, Great Yarmouth, and Norwich.
Thetford Sainsbury store car park - Open from May 18 to May 22 - 8am to 8pm.
Tesco car park in Kilverstone - Open from May 25 to May 29 - 8am to 8pm.
People without Covid-19 symptoms can simply drop into the sites and receive their lateral flow test as part of the asymptomatic programme.
Anybody who does have symptoms - a high temperature, a new, continuous cough, or a loss or change to sense of smell or taste - should instead book a test via www.nhs.uk/coronavirus or by calling 119.
