Katherine Jones RA: Fine Ladies and Gentle Men

The first-ever solo museum show by Royal Academician Katherine Jones – a compelling and poetic exploration of print and painting.

Masterpieces from Kenwood will showcase nearly 30 18th century masterpieces by British and French artists such as Thomas Gainsborough, Sir Joshua Reynolds, George Romney, Angelica Kauffman, Jean-Baptiste Pater and François Boucher and is a rare chance to see them outside London.

Internationally-acclaimed artist Helaine Blumenfeld brings her sculptures to the gallery with Tree of Life.

She said: “Tree of Life will feature three bronze sculptures in the garden - the first exterior exhibition at the museum in over a decade – as well as a marble in the galleries.”

The display will provide a unique context to Blumenfeld’s work, surrounded by the walled garden of naturalistic planting and fruit trees associated with Thomas Gainsborough.

Fine Ladies and Gentle Men will showcase new works by Brixton-based artist and printmaker Katherine Jones in her first solo museum show, which will include a varied selection of prints and small panel paintings, including new prints that respond to one of Britain’s most innovative painters, Thomas Gainsborough.

Jones depicts plants and flowers, including the 400-year-old black mulberry tree situated in the gardens of Gainsborough’s House.

She draws a parallel between the sitters of Gainsborough’s 18th-century society portraits who are showing off their finery and accoutrements of style, with the plants that do the same to attract pollinators.
