The Taste of East Anglia food and drink festival returns to Kentwell Hall, in Long Melford, this June

The Taste of Sudbury returns in June with a new name, following its success in its new home at Kentwell Hall, Long Melford, last year.

The festival, now named Taste of East Anglia, is on June 15, with more than 80 stalls selling regional, artisan food and drink products, as well as street food, local craft ales and lager and plenty of fizz.

The popular main kitchen theatre will be running all day, showcasing a range of Suffolk’s best chefs and bakers.

Making his debut on the stage will be Freddie Fallon, the executive chef now leading the kitchen at The Bildeston Crown, who will be blending Asian influences into local produce from the Nedging Hall Estate.

Making a return and labelled by The Good Food Guide as the `chef to watch’ is James Carn – owner and chef of Lark restaurant, in Bury St Edmunds.

Another award-winner is Suffolk favourite Alan Paton, who won the Sausage Rolloff this year – a keenly annually contested sausage roll competition – and he will be showing off his award-winning black pudding Battenberg sausage roll and handing out tasters.

Festival favourite father and son combination, Will and Simon Wooster, will be back to give insights into baking the best breads at home, plus the festival theatre will also be showcasing the skills of Lee Cooper, head chef at Squires at the Bedford Lodge Hotel, Sam Sturman former Suffolk Chef of the Year and now head chef at The Bull at Troston.

Greg Strolenberg of Lavenham Butchers will show off his butchery skills as he demonstrates the nutritional values of locally sourced muntjac.

The kitchen theatre compere will be Jon Jackaman, a well-respected chef, having worked in a string of prestigious restaurants including The Marriot Marble Arch and The Ritz before starting Infusions and creating the ICE brand in Bury.

If all the cooking on stage gets you hungry then there are plenty of temptations with an eclectic mix of street food in the region – how about some Indian street food, or a tasty bagel or burger, or a range of bucket fries? There will also be wood-fired pizzas, a hog roast, Thai food, sweet and savoury crepes, steak baguettes, Turkish flatbreads, burritos, loaded nachos and more.

And to wash it all down there are some great bars to choose from, including the main bar from Mauldons Brewery as well as Bar Dionysus with local wines, Bar Rumba with cocktails and G&Ts, plus Jack Rabbitt Brewery with local craft ales.

For those with a sweeter tooth there will be everything from brownies and macarons to flapjacks and scones, along with pastries, breads and artisan chocolates.

A mix of local distilleries and breweries will be on hand to make sure you have something special to take home with you at the end of the day and there will be a wide range of local produce, offering everything from chutneys and pies, to cheeses and herbs.
