BBC Young Musician finalist Sarah Williamson launches the Woolpit Festival in Suffolk as it celebrates 50 years
BBC Young Musician finalist Sarah Williamson is to star at the 50th birthday celebrations of the Woolpit Festival this weekend.
The clarinettist will be performing the Clarinet Concerto by Mozart in St Mary’s Church on Sunday at 4pm with the Keld Ensemble to herald the start of the festival.
Sarah has performed all over the world and with the BBC Symphony Orchestra, the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra and the Berlin Radio Symphony Orchestra amongst many others. She won the woodwind division of the BBC Young Musician of the Year in 2002 and won second prize in the Eurovision Competition for Young Musicians.
Other works in the concert are the charming but not often played Little Suite for strings by Carl Neilsen, String Symphony No 9 by Mendlesohn and St Paul’s Suite by Gustav Holst.

The next event in the festival arrives on Friday, October 4, at 7.30pm, when West End actor Rosie Ashe presents Adorable Dora, a tribute to national treasure Dora Bryan, in the village hall.

Topping off the festival in style will be Last Night of the Proms with the Prometheus Orchestra. Hear the magical voice of Christina Johnson sing Mozart’s Queen of the Night and other famous arias, before joining her to sing the traditional last night favourites.
