Suffolk Young People’s Theatre takes to the stage at the Theatre Royal, Bury St Edmunds, to perform The Addams Family Musical

Creepy and kooky takes centre stage at the Theatre Royal, in Bury St Edmunds, as Suffolk Young People’s Theatre performs the hilarious and macabre The Addams Family Musical this week.

The show tells the tale of the family, who make the morbid the mundane, seeing their own little bundle of darkness Wednesday growing up and falling in love with the most outrageous partner they could possibly imagine: a normal guy from Ohio.

The Addams invite the family of Wednesday’s beau for dinner and it is a clash of the clans, with hilarious and poignant consequences.

Playing Wednesday is Abbie Good, 17, of Exning, who said: “It’s been amazing to play this part. The songs are so great and Wednesday is such an iconic character, I’m so excited to bring her to the stage. This musical is so much fun and the songs are amazing.”

Theo Turner, 22, of Mildenhall, plays her father Gomez who has to, for the first time in his life, make some difficult choices that push him to his limits.

Theo said: He’s funny, unpredictable and flashy but he loves his family so much and wants everyone to be happy. That ends up being his problem through the show.”

Suffolk Young People’s Theatre is a stalwart summer school offering opportunities to young people in the area for 45 years.

The cast are led by a professional creative and technical team to bring the entire production together in two weeks.

Director Erica Dupuy said: “I’ve been impressed at the energy and commitment from the young company, who range in age from 14 to 24, as the older company have, without prompting, really taken to mentoring the younger ones. It’s been such an amazing, collaborative experience for everyone.”

Will Wednesday get the man of her dreams? Will the Addams manage to find some common ground with the Beinekes? Will Lurch ever get his point across?
