Residents in a Woodbridge street have been forced to leave their homes while an army explosives team carry out an investigation.

The army's Explosive Ordnance Disposal team are currently on the scene.

A police spokesman said: "They have made further enquiries and have removed the item from the premises."

He added that people were evacuated 'as a precaution to ensure the public's safety'.

It is believed that the property in which the chemicals were found is the same one at which two men were arrested last week for firearm offences .

Crispen Richards, 58, and Philip Richards, 24, of Bridgewood Road, were both later charged with possession of a disguised firearm - namely a walking stick - and possession of a shortened shotgun.
