Roof fire in Hasketon near Woodbridge sees dozens of firefighters work to extinguish overnight blaze




Dozens of firefighters were called to a Suffolk village last night following reports of a roof fire.

Six crews, an aerial ladder platform, an operational support unit and a number of support crews were called to Hasketon, near Woodbridge, at around 1am.

Surrounding roads were closed while firefighters battled the blaze, which took hold in the roof of a property.

Crews from Saxmundham, Woodbridge, Ipswich East, Princes Street, Holbrook and Framlingham, amongst others, were alerted.

Group manager Sally Hammond said: "At the height of this incident we had six pumping appliances crews wearing breathing apparatus also entered the building.

"It's about 4am in the morning and we are now starting to scale back our operation but we will have some of our staff here throughout the night.

"In the morning there will be a full and thorough investigation of the cause of the fire,” she added.
