Fire destroys '100 per cent' of Wantisden cottage's thatched roof




Fire crews have been tackling a thatched roof blaze in a Suffolk village this morning, which has destroyed '100 per cent' of a cottage's roof.

Firefighters were alerted to the blaze in Wantisden, near Rendlesham, at about 11am.

At 1pm, a spokesman for Suffolk Fire and Rescue Service said the fire was contained and under control.

He added there were no reports of any casualties, but the fire had 'taken all of the thatched roof'.

The B1084 is closed and emergency services are asking people to avoid the area.

According to Suffolk Fire and Rescue Service's incident log, engines from Ipswich, Woodbridge, Framlingham, Felixstowe, Aldeburgh, Leiston, Halesworth, Haverhill and Princes Street had attended the incident.
