Grassland blaze in Melton, near Woodbridge, spreads to trees as multiple fire crews called
A grassland blaze spread to trees with multiple fire crews called.
Suffolk Fire and Rescue Service was alerted at 3.57pm to deal with the incident in Foxburrow Hall Road, in Melton, near Woodbridge, yesterday.
In a Woodbridge Fire Station Facebook post, a spokesperson said having already attended a field fire in Tuddenham St Martin, they were then mobilised to the fire in the open.
They said: “Due to multiple calls three pumps were initially sent.
“The first arriving pump found an area of grassland well alight with the fire spreading towards an area of woodland.
“Crews worked hard to contain the fire, and a water carrier with an additional pump were mobilised to the incident due to water supply being a considerable distance away.
“Beaters and hose reels were used to contain the fire, and the Woodbridge appliance stayed on scene as two large trees had also caught fire.”
Crews included one from Princes Street, one from Framlingham, one from Woodbridge, two from Leiston and one from Ipswich East, which was sent as relief later in the evening.
The incident was dealt with by 9.36pm.
