Purse, mobile phone and cash stolen from elderly woman's car during distraction theft at Martlesham Tesco

A woman in her 80s was the victim of a distraction theft outside a Suffolk supermarket yesterday after another woman claimed there was a mark on her car.

Police are appealing for information following the incident, which happened at the Tesco Extra car park in Martlesham's Anson Road at some point between 4.30pm and 5pm.

They said the woman in her 80s was sat in her car, which was parked in a disabled bay, when she was approached by a woman who knocked on her window claiming there was a mark on the rear bumper of her car.

The victim then went with the suspect to look and when she returned, she found her purse, mobile phone and a quantity of cash were missing from her handbag which was in the front seat of her car.

The suspect is described as being in her late 20s, with long, dark hair.

She was wearing black trousers, possibly leather or similar-style jeans.

Anyone with information, or who may have dash cam footage while in the car park, is asked to contact the Woodbridge Safer Neighbourhood Team at Suffolk Police on 101 quoting reference 37/47256/21.
