Maidstone United fan who fell from stand onto Ipswich Town fan during FA Cup match to appear in court





A football fan is due to be charged with assault after reportedly falling on another at a history-making match.

It is understood a man fell from the upper tier of a stand, where away fans were sitting, onto home supporters below, during an FA Cup game between Maidstone United and Ipswich Town.

The incident happened at Portman Road in in January while the teams played in the fourth round of the cup.

Suffolk Police has now confirmed a 60-year-old man from Chatham has been summonsed to appear before Suffolk Magistrates’ Court, in Ipswich, on September 16.

He is due to be formally charged with one count of assault causing actual bodily harm and two counts of assault by beating.

Maidstone pulled off one of the biggest shocks in FA Cup history by beating Ipswich 2-1.

Barriers have since been added to the upper tier of the Cobbold Stand as part of improvements to the Portman Road stadium.
