Controversial bid to create two new homes on vacant Normanston Drive, Lowestoft, land approved

A controversial bid to create two new homes in a town have been given the go ahead.

East Suffolk Council gave the green light to Mr and Mrs Llewelyn’s plans for land to the back of 183 Normanston Drive, in Lowestoft, on Wednesday.

The proposals attracted 27 letters of representation from the public, including 14 objections, which cited a range of issues including access and traffic concerns, devaluation, crime and existing infrastructure issues.

A previous application on the site, for three bungalows, was refused due to access being considered unsafe and the potential for noise and disturbance.

Oulton Broad Parish Council objected to the plans, citing concerns with increased traffic and access.

It said Normanston Drive is already too busy.

An officer report on the approval said the land, which is vacant, was historically part of back gardens for several properties on Normanston Drive.

Access to the proposed new properties will be via an as yet unmade track between properties 181 and 183.

Planners deemed the designs for the properties to be in character and appropriate for the area.

They also said they did not believe the introduction of two new homes would result in a marked increase in vehicle movements on the road.
