Wherry Lines engineering works to affect Suffolk rail users travelling between Lowestoft and Norwich over coming month
‘Essential’ engineering works are set to affect Suffolk rail users over the coming month.
Rail replacements be in place between Lowestoft and Norwich on the first three weekends of September, Saturday 7 and Sunday 8, Saturday 14 and Sunday 15, and Sunday 22, due to the works on the Wherry Lines.
The project includes renewals and track maintenance to keep the railway running reliably and safely.
The will involve replacing old rails between Reedham and Hadiscoe for a smoother ride, improving drainage at Surlingham for track stability, tamping of the track bed to maintain rail performance and the alignment of rails and extending track lifespan.
Mark Walker, Network Rail Anglia route infrastructure engineer, said: “These essential works are vital for a safe and efficient railway network.
“It will help us to continue to provide a reliable service for our passengers. I’d like to thank everyone for their patience during these essential tasks.”
The works also entail vegetation management in preparation for autumn to reduce leaf buildup, which can affect the punctuality of services.
Replacement buses will run between Lowestoft and Norwich to allow passengers to complete their journeys.
Jamie Burles, Greater Anglia managing director, said: “This package of works is essential to keep the railway running and make it fit for the future.
“We would like to thank customers for their patience and understanding while this work is carried out.”
Passengers are advised to check before they travel and allow more time to complete their journeys.
The works will also affect services between Great Yarmouth and Norwich, with replacement buses again in use.
