Two Magpies Bakery Group, which has premises in Southwold and Beccles, rolls out two kilogram panettone after ingredients mix up
A bakery group has rolled out an unusual twist on a Christmas classic after an ingredients mix up led to a multi-kilogram creation.
Two Magpies Bakery Group, which operates nine bakery cafes across Suffolk and Norfolk, accidentally created the enormous two kilogram panettone.
And now, due to a flurry of excitement on social media, it has decided to roll out the colossal cake for delivery nationwide.
The Dark Chocolate and Fig Panettone is a traditional Italian dessert.
Operations director Yasmin Wyatt said: “The creation of this huge panettone was completely by accident due to a mix up with quantities, but it looked so amazing (and tasted fabulous) that we’ve decided to roll it out as a Christmas special.
“This new Panettone uses a huge amount of ingredients including 200 grams figs, 200 grams chocolate and 100 grams Pedro Ximenez sherry.
“We’ll only be making a small number of these huge cakes so they are really exclusive; we don’t believe anyone in the region and possibly any UK baker, is making a panettone as large as this one.”
The cake uses carefully sourced ingredients and is crafted by hand, and also comes with a recipe card advising customers how to use the leftovers to make a panettone bread and butter pudding.
Two Magpies has premises in Beccles, Aldeburgh, Southwold, Darsham, Woodbridge and Walpole.
It suggests the panettone is enough to feed 24 people.
