Ride out in memory of Stowmarket schoolboy William Warren, who died after being struck by a car in October 2011

A ride out and family fun day in memory of a 10-year-old Stowmarket schoolboy takes place tomorrow.

The Ride out for William is in memory of William Warren, who was struck by a car in Navigation Approach while walking home from school on October 6, 2011.

Tim, William’s father, said: “We, as a family, try to do things to raise money and in his memory.

“We just hope to raise money and awareness of road safety for children. Your children could get knocked down unless you teach them the dangers of the road. The last thing we want is for anyone to end up in an air ambulance.

“William was 10 years old when he was struck. The air ambulance attended the day William was knocked down. They couldn’t take him as he had a really serious head injury, but they landed and offered assistance and gave advice to the land crews.”

Saturday’s ride out starts at Suffolk Water Park, Bramford, at 3.30pm and ends at The Retreat, in Stowupland.

The route will pass along Navigation Approach, Cedars Park, at about 4pm, where there will be flowers and well-wishers along the bridge.

Bikers from Suffolk Biker Family and South Coast Scooter groups will take part in the ‘mods and rockers’ ride out, with entry costing £5 per biker, towards East Anglian Air Ambulance.

There will then be free family-friendly fun for all at The Retreat pub, which is laying on a bouncy castle for the event.
