PICTURES: Pubs in Lindsey and Brent Eleigh raise a glass at summer beer festivals

Time to socialise and cool off was the order of day at beer festivals held in two village pubs, which attracted thousands of people.

Charlie Buckle and Sophie Jones, landlords of the Lindsey Rose in Lindsey, said the three-day festival was a big success.

“We had 30 different beers and ciders on offer, as well as a Pimms tent, cocktail bar, and prosecco and champagne bar,” said Mr Buckle.

“We ran out of all the furkins and real ales. Local brewery Mauldons was the most popular.”

The event featured music from eight local bands, with Colchester group Better Than Your Boyfriend headlining on Saturday night.

It is the third year the festival has been held at the pub, with villagers drafted in to help out.

Mr Buckle added: “It’s really good that all the locals get involved and we have a great time. It’s lovely to see everyone chatting and enjoying themselves.

“We must have had thousands of people here over the weekend. It was very busy.”

Although the event was not held in aid of charity, the pub put out collection jars for the East Anglian Air Ambulance, so that visitors could contribute to the organisation if they wanted to.

Another pub, The Cock in Brent Eleigh, ran its 11th annual summer beer festival on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

The event featured around 15 different beers and ciders, and included live music and food.

Organiser James Davis, pictured, said: “Friday was quieter, but Saturday and Sunday was manic.

“I think most people enjoyed it and the beer and music went down very well.

“We have a bit of a reputation as a good music pub, as we have a music night once a month, and we get some great musicians playing here.

“We had a couple of musicians playing during the festival and they offered something different, I think.

“We sold out of beer completely, so I would say it went down very well, he added.”
